RECENT LOCAL UPDATES AS OF 9-29-20 . . .
The town of McCook celebrated its Heritage Days and welcomed home former U.S. Senator and former Governor Ben Nelson. Nelson and several community members announced the Birdella Nelson Technology Center which will extend the McCook Public Library, and is named after Nelson’s mother, Birdella. Nelson donated $500,000 to the Birdella Nelson Endowment for the library account.
Payton Schiller, a native Nebraskan, won the first ever Aksarben Pig Challenge. Schiller grew up in West Point raising animals for as long as she can remember, and she got to share the win with her brother who took second place. He said winning alongside his big sister was something special. Payton said all of the hard work and long hours made the day unforgettable.
The first ever Hastings Barn Market turned out to be so successful this weekend that organizer Marla Anders decided to bring it back for another week. The Hastings Barn Market will be from 10am 6pm Friday and Saturday, then 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Vendors interested in getting involved, may contact Marla Anders through the event’s Facebook page.
