There is a common misconception that educators and staff enjoy summers off. While students may have a break from classes, the dedication and hard work of the KPS administration office, school secretaries, administrators, facilities crews, diner staff, teachers, and others continue throughout the year to ensure a high-quality education for our students.
The KPS Finance Office, in particular, plays a pivotal role in closing out the current fiscal year and preparing for the upcoming school year’s budget. KPS Superintendent Jason Mundorf stated, “Our exceptional Finance team invests significant time and effort into the annual budget preparation process, culminating in a comprehensive presentation to the Board of Education every September. In addition to preparing the next school year’s budget during the summer, this team also works to close out our budget and expenditures for the current fiscal year. This incredibly hard-working group ensures we are good stewards of taxpayer money and they maximize our financial resources to support our teachers and educational programs.”
One of the key deliverables of the Finance Office is the creation of an Annual Report providing an overview of the school system. This report can be accessed on the official school website at kearneypublicschools.org, offering transparency and valuable insights into school operations, projects, and expenses.
“Collaboration with principals and directors is an integral part of our work as we engage in project budgeting to ensure the effective allocation of resources across various initiatives and educational programs,” said Dr. Chris Loofe, KPS Associate Superintendent and Finance Director. “Additionally, we ardently handle grant funds, maximizing opportunities to secure additional financial support for our schools and students.”
In line with the KPS commitment to staying informed and adaptive, Loofe and Mundorf keep up with legislative changes from the unicameral. “As education policies evolve, we actively engage with these updates to ensure compliance and optimize the educational experience provided by Kearney Public Schools,” said Mundorf.
Mundorf stated that KPS stands proud of the tireless dedication and year-round commitment exhibited by all our staff members. We encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the collective effort that goes into providing exceptional education and support for our students.
