Kearney Catholic lost tonight’s game against Ord, 34-20. Giving the Chanticleers a four-game winning streak.
Ord took the lead early and the Stars weren’t able to make up the lost ground.
Ord started off with a three-yard touchdown run from senior Trent Mccain.
The Stars failed to answer and went scoreless the remainder of the first quarter.
In the beginning of the second quarter, Mccain made an 18-yard run into the endzone, stretching the Chanticleers lead 14-0.
Ord’s quarterback, Dylan Hurlburt, made a four-yard run for another touchdown, however, the extra point was no good. Making it 20-0.
While the Stars still have yet to put points on the board, Hurlburt runs from the 50 to Kearney’s 31-yard line.
Continuing that drive, sophomore Colton Thompson catches a pass and is down on the nine. With 20 seconds left in the quarter, fourth down and less than one yard to go, Hurlburt ran the ball in for a touchdown. However, there was a holding penalty against Ord, which took them back to fourth and 10.
Kearney Catholic stopped that drive, ending the second quarter.
Five minutes in after halftime, Kearney Catholic had a run from senior Carson Murphy for a 60-yard touchdown. Putting the Stars on the board, 20-7.
Going the other way, Ord attempted a pass but senior Brant Christner blocked it and ran it back for a touchdown, but the extra point was no good. Cutting Ord’s lead to seven.
Kearney Catholic threw an interception 17 seconds into the fourth quarter. Which eventually resulted in a touchdown run from Hurlburt.
On Kearney Catholic’s drive starting at the 20-yard line, freshman Jacob Bosshamer threw an interception which was ran back for a touchdown by senior Talan Bruha. Extending Ord’s lead 34-13.
The Stars answered with a touchdown pass to Murphy with 31 seconds left in the game.
After the final whistle, Ord celebrated their victory with fireworks.
