HASTINGS – The Hastings College football team took on NAIA No. 1 Northwestern as the Broncos fell 45-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Raiders would take a 24-0 lead into halftime and then go up 45-0 in the fourth quarter before Hastings would finally get on the board.
The Broncos took over on its 25 with Jager Shaddix getting the drive going with an 18-yard run followed by a 14-yard run moving into plus territory at the NWIC 43. The Northwestern defense would force a fourth down but Carson Kudlacek connected with Eli Nappe down the sideline for the 40-yard touchdown strike to make the final score 45-7.
Kudlacek finished the game going 14-for-28 for 134 yards, two interceptions and a touchdown. Shaddix led the Broncos on the ground rushing for 35 yards on six carries. Josh Ray added 31 yards on six carries. Nappe finished the game with five catches for 71 yards.
Jayden Roberts led the defense with nine total tackles while Caden Egr added five tackles and a forced fumble. Arjee Mack-Myers finished with four tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss. He now has 11.5 career sacks which puts him in a tie for fifth all-time in school history. Gio Mendoza was able to pick-off his third pass of the season.
Hastings finished with 218 yards while Northwestern finished with 407 total yards.
Hastings is now 3-4 (2-4) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 14 as Concordia comes to town with kickoff set for 1:00 pm out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
