KEARNEY — Theison Anderson, the head coach of the KHS Girls’ Volleyball team, has announced his resignation from coaching duties. Anderson has been an integral part of the volleyball coaching staff at Kearney High School since 2020. Anderson plans to remain a fourth-grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary.

Anderson plans to remain active in the Kearney volleyball community. “I would like to announce my resignation as Head Volleyball Coach at Kearney High School effective immediately. This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I have made the decision to focus more on developing youth volleyball in the area, as this is where my passion lies. I have appreciated the 3 years of coaching at Kearney High and value the experiences I have enjoyed. It has been an honor to work with great assistant coaches and athletes, and I look forward to seeing them continue to develop and grow. This was an invaluable opportunity and experience. Thank you, and Go Bearcats!”

“I would like to take this time to personally thank Coach Anderson for leading the Bearcat Volleyball program the last three years. His knowledge of the game and passion for volleyball will be missed at the high school level but like Coach Anderson said, he is passionate about developing and coaching the youth within our community and club volleyball program. I also have proactive plans for Coach Anderson as his expertise and passion can be well served not only in the club world that he so passionately leads for our program but also a lower grade level coaching position when the time is right, and the opportunity presents itself.

This is definitely NOT the end of Coach Anderson’s coaching career at KPS.” said Ryan Hogue, KPS Activities Director and KHS Assistant Principal. “As for the future, I am also very encouraged and excited for Bearcat volleyball as we have some very talented and competitive players coming back on our JV/Varsity roster and our youth programs/clubs are showing that we will be very competitive in the coming years. Kearney High School will begin looking for a head coach immediately.”

Prior to KHS, Theison was the Men’s Head Volleyball Coach at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and a UNK graduate assistant in college volleyball (2018-2020), and served as a substitute teacher and varsity volleyball coach in Ravenna (2015-2017).
