GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island’s newest Mexican restaurant is doing “really well,” said its manager, Terrence Leininger.

Mi Pueblo is located at 2610 S. Locust St., where El Tapatio used to be located. Carlos Munoz and Tony Sanchez are owners and also own a restaurant by the same name in Aurora.

The restaurant opened a week before Christmas.

“We haven’t had a lull at all. The events they have at Fonner Park definitely help us out,” he said.

Mi Pueblo has 18 employees. It has a large menu and a full-service bar.

If something isn’t on the menu, “tell me what you want. I can make it,” Leininger said.

Mi Pueblo is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday. It is closed on Monday.

The interior of the restaurant features colorful booths that are from Mexico.

“We want to thank the community for welcoming us,” Leininger said.
