ENTRY DEADLINE: Brackets must be completed one (1) hour prior to the tip-off of the first game on 11:00am Thursday March 21, 2024 all times local. One entry per person, one winner per household.
The Bracket Challenge is an online bracket contest sponsored nationally by UPICKEM/Second Street Media. The rules for the national contest are available at the registration site on KQKY-FM:
KQKY-FM will also offer a prize to a local winner, based on your entries in this national contest.
These rules are for local prizes offered by KQKY-FM: only.
- ELIGIBILITY: You must be 18 and reside in Nebraska to win Round Prizes. Grand Prize winner must reside within 100 miles of KQKY-FM KEARNEY to play the local contest. Employees of KQKY, NRG Media, other radio stations in Station’s market; their affiliates, subsidiaries, successor companies; contest sponsors, advertising and promotion agencies, contest prize suppliers, participating advertisers and immediate family members of anyone so situated are not eligible to participate in any contest on KQKY. “Immediate family members” shall include spouses, siblings, parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren, whether as “in-laws” and any other persons residing at the same household location, whether or not related.

You must register on the UPICKEM section of the website to play.
Once registered, you must fill out the bracket completely by picking the winner of each game of each round of the tournament prior to the first full round of the tournament (i.e. the round of 64 teams). Participants will not be required to pick the winners of the “First Four” play-in games.
Brackets will be available following the announcement of the participating teams, scheduled for Sunday, March 17, 2024.
ENTRY DEADLINE is one hour prior to the tip-off of the first game on 11:00am March 21, 2024.
Each round of the tournament is worth up to 64 points. There are 6 rounds in the tournament worth up to 384 points. You will receive 2 points for each First Round game you pick correctly. You will receive 4 points for each Second Round game you pick correctly. You will receive 8 points for each Third Round game you pick correctly. You will receive 16 points for each Fourth Round game you pick correctly. You will receive 32 points for each Fifth Round game you pick correctly. You will receive 64 points for picking the winner of the Championship game. If a game is canceled, forfeited, or indefinitely suspended for any reason, that game shall not count for any participant and scores will be computed as if the game did not exist.
The participant with the highest score for each round will be deemed the round winner, subject to verification. The participant with the highest total score for all rounds combined will be deemed the Grand Prize winner, subject to verification of eligibility.
In the event of a tie for the highest score in any round, the winner for the round will be randomly selected from among the tied participants.
In the event of a tie for the highest overall score, the computer takes those tied participants and applies the “Score Approximation Formula” outlined below to determine the Grand Prize winner.
Score Approximation Formula:
1. Subtract what the participant chose as the score for the winning team from the actual winning team’s score and square this value.
- Subtract what the participant chose as the score for the losing team from the actual losing team’s score and squares this value.
- Add the value from 1 and 2 above together to get the participant’s “score approximation”.
The participant with the lowest “Score Approximation” will be deemed the winner.
If there are still ties, the ties will be broken based on the following criteria in this order:
1. The most points earned in the Fifth Round.
2. The most points earned in the Fourth Round.
3. The most points earned in the Third Round.
4. The most points earned in the Second Round.
5. The most points earned in the First Round.
6. If there is still a tie the computer picks a random winner from the tied players.
PRIZES: Winners will be notified via email.
Official Rules for Local Prizes on Hits 106 KQKY, Kearney.
These rules are for the Local Prizes offered on Hits 106 KQKY, Kearney in association with the Second Street Men’s College Basketball Tournament Contest. All local prizes will be awarded based on the criteria outlined in the Second Street official rules to eligible contestants. Round winners must reside in Nebraska. Grand Prize winner must reside within 100 miles of the Hits 106 KQKY studio in Kearney. All other Second Street contest rules and NRG Media General Contest rules apply where appropriate, including dates of contest and eligibility.
Prizes: Each round, the local participant with the highest score will receive a $10 gift card from Jersey’s Sports Bar and Grill of Kearney 5 winners total. In the event of a tie for any round, the winner will be selected by random draw from among the tied participants.
The participant with the highest score will be deemed the Grand Prize winner and will win free Coke Zero® or Powerade® products for a year (one 24-can case per month) from Chesterman Coca-Cola distributors of Kearney, valued at $280.

For the local prizes, determination of prize winners, verification of eligibility, and compliance with these rules will be conducted by the KQKY – NRG MEDIA Central Nebraska whose decision will be final.
- WINNER NOTIFICATION: Winner of local prize will be notified by email. If a winner does not respond within seven (7) days of the initial notification email, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to the next highest scoring participant. Sponsor is not responsible for any change of email address, mailing address and/or telephone number of participants.4. GENERAL CONDITIONS: This Contest is not intended to be used for gambling purposes. If it is determined that a participant is using the Contest for gambling purposes, he/she will be disqualified.
All entries become property of Station and will not be acknowledged or returned. Station may store and use any of the entries for any lawful purpose including publicity, without further compensation to the entrant. Listeners affirm they own user-generated content to and grant Station a world-wide unlimited license to use the material in any manner.
- DISQUALIFICATION AND PENALTIES:
KQKY, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person for (i) violating any of these rules, (ii) tampering with the entry process or the operation of Station electronic site, (iii) gaining an unfair advantage in participating in the contest, (iv) obtaining winner status using false or fraudulent means or information, or (v) engaging in otherwise unsportsmanlike, illegal, disruptive, annoying, harassing, or threatening behavior.
Prize is deemed forfeited if not claimed by winner within 7 days of winning or within its period of usability. Forfeited prizes will be disposed of at the discretion of Station management. Prizes may only be claimed at Station’s studio during office hours Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Prizes cannot be claimed by a third-party on behalf of the winner.
Winners must provide satisfactory proof of age, photo identification, and a valid taxpayer identification number or social security number before any prize will be awarded.
In addition, winner agrees to execute an affidavit of eligibility, indemnification and release of liability regarding winner’s participation in the contest and receipt and use of the prize before any prize is awarded.
All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Winner is solely responsible for all federal, state and local taxes including any sales taxes. Any person winning over $600 in prizes during any one year period will receive an IRS form 1099 at the end of the calendar year, and a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS. Any additional costs relating to the prizes, and incurred as a result of accepting the prizes, are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Failure to execute any required documents or comply with any of the terms will result in forfeiture of the prize.
RELEASE AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
Unless prohibited by law, contestant’s participation in contest constitutes consent and license for Station, NRG Media and contest sponsors, without any further obligation or compensation to the contest participant, to use participant’s name, voice, biographical data, likeness and user-generated content for promotional purposes in any media in any form now known or hereinafter invented.
Station, NRG Media, their subsidiaries and affiliates, their officers, directors, agents, stockholders, insurers, and employees, and their advertising and promotional agencies and sponsors assume no responsibility or liability whatsoever for damages, loss or injury resulting from participating in any contest or acceptance or use of any prize and are not affiliated with the award or the administration of the nation contest sponsored by UPickEM and Second Street Media.
