KPS, UNK announce first recipients of Kearney Teachers Tomorrow program

KEARNEY — Kearney Public Schools and the University of Nebraska at Kearney are proud to announce the first recipients of the Kearney Teachers Tomorrow (KTOM) scholarship program. This innovative initiative supports students committed to teaching, ensuring they receive financial aid and hands-on experience in education, with a guaranteed teaching position at Kearney Public Schools upon graduation.

Jason Mundorf, KPS Superintendent, stated, “Today, we celebrate the nine remarkable students who have been awarded the KTOM scholarship, acknowledging their potential to shape the future of education in Kearney. We have worked on many projects through the years, but this teacher scholarship program will be a transformative effort to identify, recruit, develop, and retain the best potential educators Kearney has to offer.”

The scholars and their majors include:
· Emma Bonsall – World Languages, Spanish 7-12, ESL
· Ayden Brophy – Biology 7-12
· Josue Gomez-Gutierrez – Mathematics 6-12
· Rosa Lopez-Moore – Elementary Education, ESL, and Special Education
· Adeline Moore – Special Education
· Bailey Nutter – Early Childhood and Elementary Education
· Keegan Peterson – English
· Tracy Roskop – Early Childhood and Elementary Education
· Abbie Scholl – Mathematics 6-12

“ I can’t thank all the people at UNK who worked collaboratively with KPS to make this dream a reality. I also want to thank the KPS Board of Education for supporting this effort and for our students who applied for this program to make Kearney Public their “home base for years to come,” said Mundorf.

“We honor these students who are embarking on a journey to become the educational leaders of tomorrow. Their dedication and passion for teaching reflect the core values of the KTOM program and our community’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.”
