KEARNEY — A Flood Watch has been issued for a swath of counties across south central Nebraska for Monday evening due to expected excessive rainfall.
The watch will be in effect from 7 p.m. through the afternoon of Tuesday, May 21.
The counites in Nebraska include Valley, Greeley, Nance, Sherman, Howard, Merrick, Polk, Dawson, Buffalo, Hall, Hamilton, York, Gosper, Phelps and Kearney.
“Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will affect much of central and south-central Nebraska this evening and overnight, with one final round of storms expected to track across the area from west-to-east mainly between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday,” per the National Weather Service – Hastings.
“While total rainfall amounts will surely vary considerably across the area, confidence is increasing in widespread totals between one and three inches, with as much as three to five inches possible in a narrow swath or two if storms continue training over the same places,” NWS Hastings notes.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, streams, creeks and other low lying and flood prone areas.
