GRAND ISLAND — Just days after its annual meeting and less than two weeks removed from its latest groundbreaking on the Hoppe Development, the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation has another major development announcement.

On Tuesday, June 18, the GIAEDC will be teaming up with the City of Grand Island and Mayor Roger Steele to announce five new projects that will be funded by $3.8 million dollars of “Build Grand Island” funds, with the majority of the funding coming thanks to nearly a million dollars in matching funds from the city and GIAEDC.

The press conference will be at 11 a.m. at 4371 Dawn Street in Grand Island.

In a previous award cycle, GIAEDC successfully leveraged $2,000,000 as seed money to stimulate development among three local developers, resulting in the construction of nine single-family homes and 17 rental units in the Railside District’s Hedde Building.

With the conclusion of the first loan cycle, the GIAEDC will recycle these funds, creating more workforce housing options to address the community’s growing housing challenges. Build Grand Island provides one more solution to tackle the housing challenges in Grand Island.
