KEARNEY – The Kearney Misko Seniors and Grand Island Home Federal Seniors lasted well past 11 PM Tuesday night, surviving a fourteen inning marathon with Kole Throckmorton’s walk-off RBI single to give the Kearney squad a home victory at Memorial Field. Kearney (8-8) earned the marathon win scoring three runs on ten hits with three errors, while Grand Island Home Federal fell scoring two runs on five hits with five errors.

It was a revenge-motivated victory for Kearney, having dropped to Home Federal a few weeks prior at Ryder Park. Additionally, Kearney had their home crowd support behind them, as the Kearney Legion programs celebrated their Fan Appreciation night activities with free admission for fans who arrived at Memorial Field.

Kearney was out to an early lead, as Bryce Anderson sent a deep shot to bring in the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning. The scoring continued for Kearney in the bottom of the fourth, as Kegan Brand lifted a hit to bring in the second score of the contest.

Grand Island reset the score in the top of the sixth, putting two runs in to tie the game after Grayson Sack and Gavin Harbold lifted two runners in. The scoring arrived after Home Federal had threatened in the top of the fifth inning with a bases loaded chance, only to suffer three outs including a double-play catch from center field by Brand followed by a snapped throw to home to tag-out the runner by Throckmorton.

Kearney and Grand Island could not break the two-run tie in the seventh, leading to extra innings.

Both teams had opportunities in various stretches of the proceeding seven innings, including Kearney juicing the bases twice. Neither side could field a run until the final frame, when Kearney’s Throckmorton took a shot over the infield into right field to wrap up the contest on an RBI single.

After a first pitch start at 7:27 PM, the contest finally concluded nearly four hours later.
