KEARNEY — The Kearney Police Department chief responded to a video that was circulating on social media regarding an arrest that occurred at the Buffalo County Fair on Thursday, July 25.
Chief Bryan Waugh said that the arrest was related to an adult male involved in a physical disturbance and assault reported at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
“In accordance with Kearney Police Policy, any response to resistance by members of the Kearney Police Department which includes the delivery of force to affect the lawful arrest of the subject, is thoroughly reviewed,” Waugh stated.
“Our officers are trained to use the least amount of force necessary to affect a lawful arrest, while also defending themselves and others from harm. I am confident in our professional police officers and the process we have in place to meet this objective,” said Waugh.
“This incident was captured by multiple Kearney Police officer body worn cameras. Officers are required to report on Use of Force which are reviewed through the chain of command. This case is no different, I appreciate your patience as this process is completed.”
