MERNA — An new wildfire broke out in Custer County near Merna, while the leg of a previous fire rekindled on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The blaze was classified as the East Table Fire by Custer County Emergency Management and occurred northwest of Merna and was reported to be quickly spreading through the canyons.
Meanwhile, a leg of the Lillian Fire that occurred north of Broken Bow reignited six miles northwest of the community.
Multiple agencies were working to contain both fires. As of Tuesday evening, there were no evacuation orders in place.
“Avoid all county roads north and northwest of Broken Bow unless you are an emergency vehicle. This includes, but is not limited to: Lillian Road, Cramer Canyon Road, and East Table Road,” Custer County Emergency Management stated.
Wind direction is pushing smoke and ash toward Broken Bow—residents should be aware of this and is to be expected.
Fire departments across Custer County canceled all burn permits until further notice.
