KEARNEY — Kearney High School junior Mia (Muddz) Lindstrom has been selected as a recipient of the Nebraska Young Artist Award, an honor presented annually by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

This prestigious award recognizes talented Nebraska high school juniors for their exceptional abilities in visual art, music, dance, theatre, film and emerging media arts. Mia submitted a charcoal drawing called “Looking”.

Now in its 28th year, the Nebraska Young Artist Awards program has recognized nearly 2,000 students from across Nebraska. Students selected for the honor demonstrated outstanding artistic talent through submitted work, which was reviewed and selected by faculty from the Hixson-Lied College. This is the second year in a row that a Kearney High School student was selected for this honor.

Mia, along with other award recipients from more than 40 high schools across Nebraska, will be honored during a special event at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln on April 3, 2025. During this day-long celebration, students and their families will tour the campus, participate in workshops, meet current UNL students, and attend an awards ceremony where they will receive a certificate and an original piece of artwork created by a UNL printmaking student.
