ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Police Department released a statement regarding a social media post that was made using the department’s social media account which told an individual to “move to Mexico.”

According to the St. Paul Police Department, on March 3, and employee of the department with access to the department’s social media account mistakenly posted a comment using the department’s Facebook account instead of their personal account.

The employee responded to a Facebook post that included the hash tag “Immigrants Make America Great.”

The response that the employee made, using the department’s account was, “If Mexico is so great, move to Mexico.”

“The comment referenced the name of a country and was not intended to target any specific race or ethnicity,” the St. Paul Police Department stated.

“This comment represented the personal views of the employee and not those of the St. Paul Police Department or the City of St. Paul, Nebraska. Upon review, the post was removed as it violated the City’s social media code of conduct. This matter will be further reviewed internally by the Mayor, City Council, and Chief of Police,” the St. Paul Police Department stated.

“We sincerely apologize for this incident,” the department concluded.
