Nebraska baseball stumbled to an 0-2 start in Big Ten play as Washington swept a doubleheader from the Huskers Saturday. After the Huskies thrashed NU 11-5 in game one, UW came back to beat Nebraska 6-3 in game two.

Game one started poorly for the Huskers, as Washington scored five runs in the top of the first off Nebraska starter Ty Horn. The Huskers scored one in the second and three in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-4, but the Huskies responded with five in the fifth and one in the seventh and cruised in from there to victory.

Peysen Sweeney came out of the bullpen to earn the win. After Washington starter Reilly McAdams allowed four earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched, Sweeney (1-1) stabilized the game, allowing just one earned run in 4.2 innings to earn the win. Horn (0-2) allowed seven earned runs in four innings to take the loss.

Trevor Kole paced the Huskies offense by going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Braeden Terry was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Gabe Swansen was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a homer to lead Nebraska’s lineup.

Game two started out as a pitcher’s duel, scoreless through 5 1/2 innings until Nebraska’s Cayden Brumbaugh clubbed a two-run homer to put the Huskers on the board. Washington answered in the top of the seventh with a three-run home run by Malakai Knight. Blake Wilson’s solo homer in the top of the eighth pushed the Huskies’ lead to 4-2  UW tacked on two more runs on Nebraska errors in the eighth to make it 6-2. In the bottom of the eighth, Brumbaugh drove in a run with a single to left-center, but the Huskers could draw no closer.

Jackson Thomas (2-0) earned the win for the Huskies, allowing two runs and four hits in seven innings. Will Walsh (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, while surrendering no walks and striking out nine.
