KHS SOCCER SWEEPS SENIOR NIGHT:

Kearney High Soccer swept senior night last night, with the girls picking up a 4-3 win over Lincoln East, while the boys had a 2-0 clean sheet over Lincoln North Star.

The Kearney girls led 3-1 at halftime, with Addie Snyder adding a goal two minutes in, and Maicie Stubbs scoring two goals within ten minutes. Reese Holscher would add the final Kearney goal in the 56th minute, which would be enough to keep Lincoln East at bay as they added two goals in the second half with the wind to their back.

The Kearney High boys didn’t need much against winless North Star, as Kaden Slaymaker would score in the 28th minute, and Gordy Garner would add the insurance goal in the 56th minute.

Postseason action awaits both the 14-2 girls and 12-4 boys team. District brackets will be released later this week.

NEBRASKA KICKER OTTOMANELLI IN PORTAL:

Husker kicker Nico Ottomanelli has entered the transfer portal, as he announced on social media last night.

Nebraska does have a crowded room at the position, especially with a potential required roster crunch, with Tristan Alvano and John Hohl also on the team.

Out of Harrington Parks, N.J., Ottomanelli joined the program in 2024 and redshirted without a kick. As a high school player, Ottomanelli was 14-of-17 on field goals in his career, according to NJ.com.

COMMANDERS AND WASHINGTON AGREE TO A DEAL TO BUILD AT RFK STADIUM SITE:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Growing up in the Washington area, Josh Harris cherished his chances once or twice a year to watch his favorite football team play at RFK Stadium, the home during the glory days when the likes of Joe Theismann and John Riggins made the stands shake on the way to three Super Bowl championships.

Now the controlling owner and with fellow locals and longtime fans Mitch Rales and Mark Ein also involved, Harris and his group are a giant leap closer to bringing the team back where they think it belongs.

Washington’s NFL franchise is set to return to the nation’s capital as part of an agreement between the organization and the District of Columbia government to build a new stadium as part of a project totaling nearly $4 billion. The Commanders and Mayor Muriel Bowser announced their deal Monday to construct a new home for the football team in the city at the site the old RFK Stadium, the place the franchise called home for more than three decades.

ROB MANFRED SAYS HE DISCUSSED PETE ROSE’S STATUS WITH DONALD TRUMP AND WILL RULE ON REINSTATEMENT:

NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he discussed Pete Rose with President Donald Trump at a meeting two weeks ago and he plans to rule on a request to end the sport’s permanent ban of the career hits leader, who died in September.

Speaking Monday at a meeting of the Associated Press Sports Editors, Manfred said he and Trump have discussed several issues, including Manfred’s concerns over how Trump’s immigration policies could impact players from Cuba, Venezuela and other foreign countries.

Manfred is considering a petition to have Rose posthumously removed from MLB’s permanently ineligible list. The petition was filed in January by Jeffrey Lenkov, a Southern California lawyer who represented Rose prior to the 17-time All-Star’s death at age 83.

“I met with President Trump two weeks ago, I guess now, and one of the topics was Pete Rose, but I’m not going beyond that,” Manfred said. “He’s said what he said publicly, I’m not going beyond that in terms of what the back and forth was.”
