The Nebraska State Patrol has released additional details in Wednesday morning’s officer involved shooting near Cornhusker Highway and Superior in northeast Lincoln. NSP Colonel Bryan Waugh says members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force were looking for a person wanted in connection with a drug and gun case around 8:45 a.m.

He says the suspect, who was believed to be armed and dangerous, was seen leaving a hotel near 56th Street and Cornhusker Highway and getting into a rideshare vehicle. Waugh says the Task Force members, including a Nebraska State Trooper and a United States Deputy Marshal, tried to stop the vehicle and apprehend the suspect.

“The driver was able to stop the vehicle and voluntarily exited the vehicle,” Waugh says. “Both the trooper and deputy marshal gave verbal commands to the suspect, but the suspect did not comply.”

Waugh says the preliminary indication is the trooper saw the suspect holding a handgun. “The trooper and deputy marshal both fired from their service pistol, striking the suspect.” Waugh says the wanted suspect was taken to Bryan West with life-threatening injuries. Investigators recovered a handgun from the vehicle. It’s not known if the suspect fired any rounds.
