New Show, New Co-Host

Austin Jacobsen is my new partner-in-(radio mornings)-crime.  And below, in his own words, the Kearney native shares 10 Fun Facts about himself.  My jaw dropped at number six.

Listen to “Bic & Austin Mornings” weekdays from 6am to 10am on HITS 106.

Enjoy! (bam!)  🙂  -Bic

Austin Jacobsen, In His Own Words:

  1. The very first concert I ever went to in person was the Nebraskaland Days Kid Rock concert when I was an 8th grader.  My parents let me go by myself with a friend.  Also, technically I had my first kiss at that concert, too.  Who lets any kid go to a Kid Rock concert on their own??
  2. I find myself to be a pretzel connoisseur.  Every time I go anywhere to a restaurant and see a pretzel on the menu, I will likely order it.  It drives my girlfriend insane.  Too bad I love carbs and likely nacho cheese.
  3. The first movie I ever cried in the theater for was the 2014 “Godzilla” film – I was a junior in high school.
  4. I have a pathological fear of snakes.  Like how some dogs are terrified of thunder and fireworks, I have a fear of snakes.  I freeze when I see them, and on more than one occasion I’ve fainted when seeing one.  Garter snakes, rattlesnakes, snakes on TV, amusement park rides, everything.  It used to be so bad that if a movie or show showed a snake I would have to turn it off and walk away.  Slowly getting better at it!Side story – My mom used to tell me, “It’s too hot / too cold for snakes,” to make me go outside and get out of the house when I was young . . . I believed that all the way up to college.  I would routinely tell people “it’s too hot for snakes today.”
  5. My most listened to song on Spotify for two consecutive years has been “Come a Little Bit Closer” by Jay and The Americans because . . . well I’m not really sure.  It’s a good song!
  6. I once had breakfast with Mac Miller.  He performed in Laramie, Wyoming at UW when my brother was a student;  he got me tickets and I stayed at a hotel that night.  The interstate (the Laramie Pass) was closed due to snow and high winds in the morning, so I went to get the continental breakfast and Mac Miller sat down with me and we had Fruit Loops and hot waffles together.  It was magical.
  7. In my free time I watch sports highlight clips from games that I have never seen.  I love listening to old broadcasters and how they interpreted the moments.  I got into sports broadcasting after listening to Keith Jackson broadcast Vince Young’s touchdown run in the 2006 Rose Bowl Championship Game.
  8. My favorite TV show is “Survivor”.  During Quarantine last year, I found all the old seasons on Hulu and rewatched every season – all 40 – with my girlfriend who had never seen them before.  Now, my mom and I get together on Wednesday’s and watch the new episodes and hang out.
  9. I was voted “Most Talkative” in high school for the yearbook, but I was also voted “Most Likely to Blow Out Your Ear Drums” on the secret yearbook and both are very correct.
  10. I log and keep track of all the movies I’ve watched since June 2, 2019 (using the Letterboxd app).  I have watched 1,014 films for nearly 1,861 hours (about 77 days).
