A Thursday night crash between a vehicle and school bus resulted in a fatality.
The incident happened Thursday night at Platte Road and 2nd Avenue / Highway 44 in south Kearney at approximately 8:04 p.m..
A Cozad school bus was traveling northbound on 2nd avenue, turning left on Platte Road.
A 1993 Cadillac traveling southbound on 2nd avenue struck the front passenger side corner of the bus as it turned.
Another vehicle that was stopped was also struck but received minor damage.
The driver of the Cadillac was identified as 19–year–old Jacob Harms of Hildreth and the passenger was identified as 17–year–old Britney Royle of Axtell.
Royale was pronounced dead at the scene after EMS professionals performed life saving efforts.
Harms was transported to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital and later flown to Omaha with non–life–threatening injuries..
The driver of the school bus, was 68– year–old Torrey Kloppenborg of Cozad. The bus was transporting the Cozad High School girls’ softball team. There were 12 students and 4 adults on the bus. Two adults and 3 students were transported to be treated and later released.
