KEARNEY — Kearney High School is excited to announce a full day dedicated to preparing students for their future college, career, and life readiness. Set for Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, this event is part of the broader celebration of February’s Career and Technical Education Month. Kearney High School is committed to providing all students with meaningful experiences that connect educational paths to future career opportunities.
Freshmen will explore post-secondary education by visiting Central Community College and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The day includes campus tours.
Sophomores will engage in “Connect the Dots,” an interactive career development program by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension 4-H. This event, held at KHS, aims to help students link career fields with postsecondary options and current employer needs.
Juniors have the opportunity to visit colleges and universities across Nebraska, with options ranging from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to Concordia University. This choice-driven experience is designed to broaden students’ understanding of post-secondary education opportunities.
Seniors will focus on gaining real-world experience through business tours and job shadowing within the Kearney community. This direct engagement with local businesses aims to showcase the wealth of career opportunities available locally. Seniors arrange their own job shadows, reflecting on their career assessments to choose relevant experiences.
This initiative reflects Kearney High School’s dedication to ensuring students are well-prepared for their next steps after graduation. Activities are designed to foster an understanding of the relationship between education, career choices, and the skills needed for the workforce of tomorrow. Students will participate in various activities tailored to their grade level, receiving guidance and support from teachers and community partners. The day is structured to maximize exposure to a wide range of educational and career paths, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making for future success.
Kearney High School extends its gratitude to the local businesses, educational institutions, and community members who have partnered with the school to make this event possible. Their invaluable support underscores the community’s commitment to nurturing the potential of our youth.
