Nebraska pitcher Mason McConnaughey earned another preseason accolade, as he was named second-team preseason All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association Friday. That comes after McConnaughey was named a third-team preseason All-American by D1Baseball.com last week. McConnaughey is looking to build off last year’s second-team All-Big Ten campaign, where he went 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 17 games, including 11 starts. McConnaughey is the fifth NU pitcher in school history to return after a 90-plus strikeout season, joining Bob Sebra, Troy Brohawn, Shane Komine, and Joba Chamberlain.

Nebraska baseball opens its season next Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz., against UC-Irvine. First pitch is at 2 p.m. with pregame coverage at 1:30 p.m. on KLIN.
